Thanks To Scandinavia Introduces US Election Program with Journalists from Top Scandinavian Universities
NEW YORK, October 16, 2008.... Thanks To
Scandinavia is proud to welcome a group of Scandinavian students from
top schools of journalism on a trip to the United States focusing on
the U.S. elections and transatlantic relations. The trip, which will
bring the students to New York over Election Day, is TTS’s latest
effort to deepen transatlantic connections among the next generation.
Six students from the Danish School of Journalism in Aarhus and one
from the Danish Institute of International Studies, four from Finland’s
University of Helsinki, four from Norway’s University of Oslo, and
three from Sweden’s University of Gothenburg will be traveling to the
U.S. for a two week period, starting in Washington, DC, going to the
University of Oklahoma, and ending in New York.
The journalists will meet students and members of U.S. media,
politicians and government officials, NGO representatives, professors
and students, and much more. The students will be reporting from New
York on Election Day.
Thanks To Scandinavia is a scholarship fund founded in 1963 by
Danish entertainer Victor Borge and New York attorney Richard Netter,
which provides dozens of scholarships for students and teachers from
Scandinavia and Bulgaria each year in gratitude for the heroic rescue
and protection of Jews in Europe during the Second World War.
The educational organization, which is an institute of the American
Jewish Committee, awards annual scholarships totaling $519,500 to
Scandinavian students, teachers, journalists and other opinion makers
for study and study trips at universities and medical centers in the
United States as well as in Israel and Scandinavia.
With important original research and publications as well as
programming, Thanks To Scandinavia has been instrumental in giving
public visibility to the inspiring story of how Scandinavians protected
thousands of their Jewish neighbors during the Holocaust.
Thanks To Scandinavia’s mission is to build bridges of friendship
among Scandinavians, Americans, and Jews worldwide that resonate with
this history and will stay vibrant today and into the future.
