November 18, 2003, Boston -- at 7:00 pm. A Day in October. Danes Worldwide presents the movie "A Day in October" at the Scandinavian Living Center, 206 Waltham Street, West Newton in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the rescue of 7000 Jews from Nazi occupied Denmark in October, 1943. Introductory speaker is Leo Goldberger, Ph.D, editor of “Rescue of Danish Jews: Moral Courage Under Stress,” who highlights his personal escape.  Jacob Friis, Honorary Consul to Denmark in Boston, also speaks. The not-for-profit Scandinavian Living Center is a small and welcoming assisted living community open to all nationalities.  Admission and refreshments are free but advance reservations are recommended due to space limitations. October 22, 2003, New York City -- at 7:00 pm. Extraordinary Acts by Ordinary People: An Evening of History and Hope. In cooperation with the Sol Goldman YM/YWHA, TTS will hold its 7th annual celebration of the spirit of the Scandinavian rescue. The Hypothetical Theater will premiere "Ordinary Heroes," a dramatic piece about rescue stories during the Second World War in all four Nordic countries. The Spirit of Scandinavia Award will be presented to Eddie Bergman and Robert Alsbrooks, founders of Miracle Corners of the World -- an organization dedicated to empowering youth to repair our world. 14th Street YM-YWHA, 344 East 14th Street (between 1st and 2nd Avenues), New York. September 22-25, 2003, New York City -- Why Denmark Stood up for its Jews. TTS is bringing University of Southern Denmark Professor Therkel Straede to New York to lecture at two prestigious academic institutions on "World War II and the Danish Rescue: Why Denmark Stood Up for Its Jews." The lectures are free and open to the public.

This annual program is a tribute to Benjamin and Frances Sperling, whose substantial legacy has made TTS projects possible in the U.S. and Israel, the New York 14th Street YM-YWHA presents an annual program in spring inspired by the moral imperatives of Thanks To Scandinavia as described on the dedication plaque of the building's TTS promenade: "To serve as a reminder of the humanity and bravery of the people, the governments and the churches of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden in rescuing people of the Jewish faith from the Holocaust."
