February 2001

I just returned from a trip and found your heartening letter. I’m very happy to be included in your website.

In fact, anything that promotes the good work you do through your organization should be aided. In my own way, I try to disseminate the info on the history of Holocaust through literary texts, and am currently in the process of reading an interesting book on the subject, set against the backdrop of Nazi Germany.

December 2000

I really learned an awful lot during my sojourn in Decorah and above all had the delightful experience of enjoying American hospitality. Simply put, my stay at Luther was brilliant. Now I am even contemplating joining an expedition to Arizona with the Department of Anthropology of Luther College.

I also held a talk about the scholarship funding/Thanks To Scandinavia, and highlighted the work you do in order to keep the flame of gratitude burning.

Here, I’m reminded of a speech Stephen Spielberg delivered at the Academy Awards for Schindlers’ List. He made an earnest and heart-rendering request (particularly to educators from all over the world) not to make the gruesome event of holocaust just another footnote in our history, but to acknowledge it as an irrevocable scar in the human psyche. This remark made such an indelible impression I have made a special effort to make my students aware of this part of our history.
