TTS ALUMNI ALBUM: Some letters to TTS
Maria Brincker from Denmark is studying at CUNY in New York City.
January 23, 2001
I am a Danish philosophy student that through Thanks To Scandinavia Rubin
Shulsky Philanthropic Fund Scholarship has been awarded a scholarship to pursue
my studies in CUNY graduate center. I am writing to you to express my
appreciation for the contribution that is instrumental in making my stay at CUNY
possible.
I have taken my Bachelor and part of my Master’s at the University of
Copenhagen, and it is my hope after this stay in New York to be able to return
and apply for a Ph.D. I have studied a year in Paris, which has been of
incredible value to my academic development, and I am now extremely happy to
have the opportunity to complete my education with a year at CUNY.
Having spent the first week in the city moving in and taking care of all the
administrative paperwork, I am now looking forward to starting classes. I am
enrolled in the Master’s program in philosophy at the CUNY graduate center.
One of the objects of my stay at CUNY is to familiarize myself with the
contemporary American philosophy of mind, and this first semester I have chosen
two courses in this field. One in Quine and Sellars and another one about the
psychological reality of language. Apart from these I have registered to attend
a course in Nietzsche and one about virtue in art and philosophy. So far I have
had a very positive impression of the department and my expectations for the
coming year are high.
