Current Events: TTS Mourns with Norway
Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Norway during these difficult days. May hope and tolerance triumph over hate; may we join with renewed strength together to strengthen the principles of our democracies. — The Board of Thanks To Scandinavia.

The following statement was released by AJC on Friday, July 22nd: July 22, 2011 – New York – AJC stands with the people of Norway, after the Scandinavian country was hit by deadly terror attacks today. The main government buildings in Oslo were severely damaged by two massive bombs, leaving at least seven dead. Later, a man opened fire at a summer camp on the island of Utoeya, where some 600 young people, ages 14-25, were attending Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg’s Labour Party youth section annual gathering. At least 81 were killed there. ‘The scourge of terrorism, as Norway tragically learned today, does not discriminate,” said AJC Executive Director David Harris. “Our hearts go out to the Norwegian government and people, as they strive to answer who carried out these vicious and fatal acts of violence against innocents, including young people, and why.” Police arrested Anders Behring Breivik, a 32-year-old Norwegian, and are investigating whether he acted alone or had accomplices in the Oslo and Utoeya attacks. AJC, a global advocacy organization, maintains extensive relations with Norway through Thanks to Scandinavia, an AJC institute.
