Thanks To Scandinavia Funds First Bulgarian Students for Study in the United States, alongside dozens of Scandinavian Scholars
NEW YORK, September 2006…. Thanks To Scandinavia, an institute of the American Jewish Committee, gave its first awards, full scholarships, to Bulgarian students for graduate study in the United States.
Ms. Petya Krasteva will be pursuing a PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular and Cell Biology at Cornell University. Ms. Bistra Dilkina is pursuing a PhD in Computer Science at Cornell. Both are receiving full scholarships named in honor of Alice and Richard Netter. Richard Netter is co-founder and President of Thanks To Scandinavia.
In 2006, Thanks to Scandinavia awarded thirty other scholarships to Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish students at twenty-two different universities across the country, including Princeton, George Washington, George Mason, Pratt Institute, CUNY, University of Virginia, Parsons School of Design, Manhattan School of Music, and others – and our annual grants to Columbia, University of Oklahoma and University of Pennsylvania.
Thanks To Scandinavia is a scholarship fund founded in 1963 by Danish entertainer Victor Borge and New York attorney Richard Netter, which provides dozens of scholarships for students and teachers from Scandinavia and Bulgaria each year in gratitude for the heroic rescue and protection of Jews in Europe during the Second World War. Thanks To Scandinavia’s mission is to build bridges of friendship among Scandinavians, Americans, and Jews worldwide that resonate with this history and will stay vibrant today and into the future.
